2020 BMW R1250GS (it’s on the list of tested bikes)

    T865X tablet

Carpe Iter BMW control hub with extra 4 buttons for throttle side)

    everything connected and working.

added the DMD branded OBD dongle and it’s connected via blue tooth

Blue circle on OBD page for OBD blue tooth selected.

    correct ELM device selected

    language set to auto

no engine data available and the red led on the dongle for OBD data flow not flashing.  It’s like OBD port is turned off?

tested dongle on my 2024 BMW R1250RS and exact same result. No data flow, it’s like my dealer has somehow turned off the OBD sensor to end user customer.  Is this even possible?

has anyone seen this or solved it?

data is available in the CANBUS system as my BMW NAV VI hooked up on both bikes before unplugging it from the GS to set up DMD displayed engine data. So data is flowing but the OBD port is dead on both bikes.

there’s power at the port, as the power and blue tooth light turn on when the OBD dongle is connected… just no data flow.

    Hello

I never seen a BMW motorcycle where the OBD dongle would not work.
Can you test by disconnecting the CARPE controller thing first, just to check if thats causing any issue.

    Thanks for reaching out!

When I plug the dongle in I get the power light, the bluetooth light, a yellow host light that flashes about every 4 seconds and a single flash of the red OBD light. Then the red OBD data light never flashes again…..same results on 2020 BMW R1250GS and my 2024 BMW R1250RS.  I tried it on the RS just to remove the carpe Iter BMW control hub from the equation but left it as a paired device in the tablet/not actively paired but still in the paired position)

I’m down to 4 possible variables

    1) carpe Iter controller is using up Bluetooth data transfer lanes/rates and blocking OBD dongle data transfer.

    2) servicing dealer has somehow toggled off the OBD from customer use, not very likely.  I spoke to the dealer yesterday and they say “No” they don’t have a way to turn that off.

    3) servicing dealer has damaged the OBD dongle channels on both bikes in the bike brains…again,  not very likely but “possible”..,

    4) both bikes have Clear Water brand lights with a CAN-opener in the system, could this block data flow to OBD? VERY doubtful but….

I think it must have something to fo with the CI BMW control hub at this point..

I’m going to disconnect the pairing as a final test (do I need to “disconnect” OR do I need to completely “forget pairing” for a valid test?)

Maybe it’s a pairing order? Maybe the OBD dongle needs to pair first? And if it’s successful then pair the CI BMW control hub?

any other BMW riders with the same set-up having more luck?

is Thork Racing looking at developing a BMW control hub and button set to keep everything “brand tied”
