
I’m guessing, when you say “create a track (without routing) and place a few waypoints at certain locations on it”, you’re not wanting the track to route to them, like a “Route” would. Tracks use a long list of coordinates to draw a line on the map. Routes use “waypoints” to draw a line from waypoint to waypoint. In the case of a track, a “waypoint” is more like a “point of interest”. An overlook, a historical marker, waterfalls, hot springs, etc
I typically add those as I’m making the track in whatever program I’m using to do that, so they’re a part of the GPX file. I give each POI a custom icon and a label saying what it is. Both are displayed on the DMD map when I load the track.
Haven’t seen a way to do that in DMD, placing points along the track on-the-fly that you’d like to check out, after the track is imported to the device.
